Tampa Cup Success For Many DME Teams
September 3, 2024
Each tournament presents a new opportunity for growth and while many DME teams had to sit on the sidelines this weekend due to a tournament cancelling its event, some teams were fortunate to get on the pitch up in Tampa for some strong competition from across the world. In fact, teams from Michigan, Canada, Georgia, Carolina’s & even the Bahama’s were present.
Here is how the Academy faired:
- 2012B Black – 2-1
- 2011B Black -1-2
- 2010B Black – 2-1
- 2009B Black – 2-1-1 – Finalists
- 2008B Black – 0-2-1
- 2006/07B Black – 3-0-1 – Champions
- 2012G Black – 3-0-1 – Champions
13 -8 -4 Overall record, 60% winning percentage.
2009B Black – Finalist Recap
Coach Konrad has the boys believing and this team is packed with talent that has just come together. Over the last two tournaments, they have reached the finals both times. In the Tampa Cup, they breezed through the Super Group (top bracket), going 2-0-1 defeating PSG from Miami 3-1, drawing with Woodbridge from Canada 1-1 and winning 2-0 over Silva Academy. They matched up with a strong Miami Lakes Teams who was 3-0 going into the final and sitting at 12 goals for, 0 against. The game was back and forth and sitting at a 1-1 tie until the closing quarter where an unfortunate PK cost our boys in Gold. A great performance however, and certainly something to build off of.
2006/07B Black – Championship Recap
Coach Jake is piecing it together and the boys are starting to believe. With a strong defense the boys played well together and went 2-0-1 in the Super Group (top bracket). They took down Warner 1-0, tied Venice 1-1 and then defeated Cape Coral, 2-0. In the finals they matched up with Warner again and produced the same 1-0 result. An undefeated weekend is always nice but so too is building chemistry and this team is doing that.
2012G Black – Championship Recap
Two tournaments in, undefeated on the year and 0 goals allowed on the season. This group is quieting their sole naysayer/blog writer with an impressive run over teams from the ECNL and GA. In group play the girls went 2-0-1, producing a 2-0 win over Florida West, 3-0 win over MountVerde and a tie 0-0 with Sporting United GA, out of Michigan (called due to storms). In the final the girls came out swinging in the Sporting rematch, and won 2-0 to hoist their second trophy on the year.
There are a lot of positive signs across the club but with winning as part of our DNA, we continue to push development of our players through hard work, commitment and a relentless pursuit of dominating the next game.
