From DME Academy to Real Madrid: Yan Diomande Scores His First Goal at the Bernabéu

October 11, 2026

Former DME Academy standout delivers the winning goal for the world’s most recognizable soccer club, highlighting an extraordinary journey through American youth sports academy.

Some soccer stories are bigger than the game itself. Yan Diomande’s journey from DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Florida, to scoring the winning goal for Real Madrid is one of them.

On Saturday, October 10, 2026, the 19-year-old Ivory Coast international scored his first goal for Real Madrid, securing a 1–0 victory over Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabéu.

In the 62nd minute, Federico Valverde played Diomande through on goal. The young forward delivered a composed finish past the goalkeeper. Initially ruled offside, the goal was awarded following a VAR review.

His first goal for Real Madrid was also the match winner.

For Diomande, it was a milestone years in the making. For American youth soccer and DME, it was another reminder that the pathway to the world’s biggest clubs does not always follow a traditional path.

An Unconventional Path Through American Soccer

Born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Diomande arrived in the United States at just 15 years old, joining DME Academy in Daytona Beach in 2022.

Far from his family and initially unable to speak English, he faced the challenges of adapting to a new country, culture, and soccer environment.

But on the field, his talent was undeniable.

During his time at DME Academy, Diomande developed through a combination of school-based soccer, competitive matches, and opportunities against older, more experienced players.

His performances with DME’s National High School team attracted attention, while his involvement with AS Frenzi in the United Premier Soccer League provided another opportunity to compete.

In 2023, Diomande helped AS Frenzi capture the UPSL national championship, scoring twice in the final and earning individual recognition for his performances throughout the playoffs.

He was also recognized by TopDrawerSoccer as one of the 23 male players who dominated in 2023.

From Florida to Europe’s Biggest Stage

Diomande’s road to Real Madrid was anything but straightforward.

His breakthrough came with Spanish club CD Leganés, where he made his LaLiga debut in March 2025 against Real Madrid.

From there, his career accelerated.

A move to RB Leipzig in Germany followed, where Diomande emerged as one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting young attacking players. His performances attracted international attention and eventually earned him a blockbuster transfer to Real Madrid in August 2026.

Just over two years after playing academy soccer in Florida, he was wearing the famous white shirt of Real Madrid.

And now, he has scored his first goal for the club.

A Significant Moment for American Youth Soccer

The United States has invested heavily in youth soccer development through professional academies, private schools, competitive clubs, and independent training environments.

Diomande’s journey represents an unusual example of how those environments can contribute to the development of an international player.

He is not an American international. He represents Ivory Coast, and his early development began in Africa. But his time at DME Academy and within American competitive soccer was a meaningful chapter in his journey.

It is exceptionally rare for a player who spent formative teenage years competing in American school and independent club soccer to go on to score for Real Madrid’s first team.

Whether Diomande is the first player in the club’s history to accomplish that specific feat requires further historical verification. Regardless, the achievement places his American academy experience in remarkable company.

A Goal That Represents Something Bigger

At the final whistle, Diomande had delivered three points for Real Madrid in front of the Bernabéu crowd.

For the coaches, teammates, and people who knew him during his time in Florida, the moment carries another meaning.

It is a reminder that great players can emerge from unexpected environments, that development pathways are rarely identical, and that opportunity combined with talent and determination can change a young athlete’s future.

From Abidjan to Daytona Beach. From American school soccer and the UPSL to Leganés, Leipzig, and Real Madrid.

Yan Diomande’s journey has already challenged conventional thinking about player development.

And at just 19 years old, his story is still being written.

From DME Academy to the Santiago Bernabéu. A journey worth celebrating.
