Tampa Bay Super Cup Boys Recap 2023

December 18, 2023

With heavy rain and wind, and a lack of good event communication, the boys battled the elements and bad luck this weekend with class. Each tournament offers a new puzzle to solve, which is why we welcome tournaments with open arms. Adversity makes you stronger and we sure faced some adversity this weekend.

2009 Boys – Confidence is Rising

Capping off an excellent weekend, the 2009 boys took home the championship in PK’s over Asphalt Green out of New York in the Silver/Bronze Division. The team is currently ranked 19th in NY East and beat our boys 3-0 earlier in the weekend during group play. With a never-give-up attitude, DME overcame the elements and the earlier loss and celebrated in style after some cool finishes and tough stops by Lucas Diaz. With an overall record of 3-1, these boys deserved the trophy and headed into the break with some confidence.

2007 Boys – Play Till The Last Whistle

This team has been riddled with injuries this year but they continue to improve and fight for each other on the field. The boys ended group play undefeated at 2-0-1 and faced off against Asphalt Green out of New York in the Silver/Bronze Division final. Asphalt is ranked 23 in NY East and had some speed/size up front. In the end, DME took a 2-1 loss but many players from the team caught the eyes of college scouts in attendance. They too, head into the break with confidence.

2010 Boys – Playing With a Target On Their Back

Perhaps our most talented team at DME Academy, Sarasota, the 2010 boys played in the Super Gold Trophy Bracket and ended group play undefeated. Unfortunately, the team was forced to take a tie due to weather and ended group play 0-0-3 and lost out on a finals rematch with Miami Breakers due to points. While it feels like a loss to many of the boys, they are undefeated in their last 10 games now and undefeated in EA League play. Everyone wants to beat this group, but they are strong, technical, and fast – making them as good a team as any in Florida.

2005/06 Boys – Call It A Wash

This team caught some bad luck, not on the field but off the field. After a tough 1-o loss to open the event, their second game was a tie due to weather cancellations and their third game had the team running around town, field-to-field due to poor event communication. They took a forfeit (which will be corrected) for not being at the field. This team is packed with talent, and in this case, college coaches missed their chances to see real players play. As they head into the break, the boys worked hard to unite, built a winning portfolio, secured a top-three spot in the league, and will shock a lot of people coming back in January even stronger.

2008 Boys -Tooling Up

The 2008 boys went 1-2 this weekend. All three games were close (1 goal) which is a positive sign for things to come in the future. We are seeing talent pour in to train with the boys and we know the future is bright. The core team is using this time to build technical skill sets and find their way and we expect big things from them in 2024.

2005/06 Boys From Daytona

4-0 and Super Cup Bracket Champs. Florida Prime, Florida Premier ECNL, Minnesota Select & Supreme FC all took the L against this talented group of men. If you have not caught a game, you need to see this crew in action! Congrats Thales, Todd, and the rest of the team! Well-deserved.

2015/16 Boys

These young guns went 1-1-1 this weekend and showed the club their true love for the game in these wet and windy conditions.

Overall, the DME teams did well and ended the weekend at 11-6-6.
