December 16, 2024

This past weekend was one to remember for the athletes and families of DME Academy, as their teams took on competition across multiple events from across the country, leaving their mark with impressive performances, hard-fought battles, and exciting results. The weekend’s highlights included a runner-up finish for the 2014 girls and a dramatic penalty shootout loss for the 2014 boys, along with outstanding results for the 2012 girls and 2009 girls (Daytona), who remained undefeated in their respective showcases. Let’s dive into the incredible performances that had everyone talking.

2014 Girls: A Hard-Fought Finalist Medal

The 2014 girls’ team brought their A-game and made an unforgettable run to the finals, battling through tough opposition with grit and determination. They finished the weekend with a 2-1-1 record, earning a well-deserved finalist medal. After winning two of their matches and drawing another, they showed incredible resilience, particularly in the face of adversity, making their way to the final showdown. Despite their best efforts, they narrowly fell short in the championship match (1-0 loss to Azzuri), but their performance throughout the tournament was nothing short of spectacular. The teamwork, skill, and spirit shown by the girls was a testament to their hard work and commitment on the field, earning them a place among the weekend’s most impressive competitors.

2014 Boys: Heartbreaking Penalty Shootout Loss

The 2014 boys also had a stellar weekend, making it all the way to the finals, where they faced off against a talented team from the Cayman Islands. The match was a nail-biter from start to finish, with both sides putting on an intense display of skill and strategy. After a gripping 4-4 draw in regular time, the game went to penalties, and despite a heroic effort from the DME Academy boys, they ultimately fell short in the shootout. The boys’ ability to hold their composure under pressure were on full display throughout the tournament. While they didn’t take home the top trophy, their runner-up finish was an incredible achievement, and they left everything on the field in a heart-stopping penalty finale that will be remembered for a long time.

2012 Girls: Undefeated at IMG Cup

The 2012 girls’ team made waves at the prestigious IMG Cup, finishing their showcase with an undefeated 2-0-1 record in the top bracket. Their performance was a clinic in technical soccer, as they dominated possession. Their only draw came against a tough opponent #7 from Massachusetts, but even then, the girls showed poise and composure, and scored two late goals to make it even. Give the girls a few more minutes on the clock and another goal was coming.  The undefeated record speaks volumes about their collective talent and the development they’ve undergone under the guidance of DME Academy’s coaching staff. They ended the 24 season with a 25-3-3 record.

2009 Girls (Gold Team/Daytona): A Stellar Weekend for Daytona’s Finest

The 2009 girls (Gold Team) from Daytona also joined in on the excitement, competing in a strong tournament and finishing undefeated with a 2-0-1 record. Their dynamic style of play and relentless energy were key factors in their success throughout the weekend.
